CEO and Co-Founder Quickplay

As President, CEO and Co-founder of Quickplay, Wayne Purboo drives the development, management and execution of Quickplay’s innovative strategy. Under his guidance Quickplay has developed award-winning technologies and forged critical partnerships with market leading content providers, video service providers, handset manufacturers and mobile service operators to drive the rapid growth of the company.

Prior to founding Quickplay, Wayne was Chief Technology Officer for Solect Technology Group. When Solect was acquired by Amdocs, Wayne was appointed to the role of Vice-President of Strategy. In this capacity he launched and was Editor-in-Chief of ABR, a quarterly research magazine focused on the future of Telecom with a worldwide circulation to thousands of industry professionals.

Wayne is on the Advisory Board of Virgin Unite, which is developing new approaches to social and environmental issues. He is also active on the boards of GlassBOX, Artscape, Cellwand, and the Toronto International Film Festival. He has been recognized as a Sick Kids’ Leader by Sick Children’s Hospital and as one of “Canada’s Top 40 Under 40? by the Caldwell Partners. Wayne holds a Bachelor of Computer Sciences degree from McMaster University.

André Christensen

André Christensen

Chief Operating Officer

In his role as Chief Operating Officer, André is responsible for leading the development of next generation platform products and video services, successfully deploying customers into production, ongoing managed services, and driving operational excellence across Quickplay. His primary focus is on R&D, Professional Services, Customer Success, Architecture/Solution Design,  Engineering, Delivery, Service Operations, and IT.

Prior to joining Quickplay, Christensen served as SVP Business Operations at Yahoo globally, leading major efforts around product go-to-market, operations and partnerships. Preceding Yahoo, Christensen spent 12 years with McKinsey & Company as a partner where he launched and developed the Business Technology practice in Canada, led McKinsey’s global Strategic Sourcing practice focused on managed services and cross border operations, and worked extensively with leading media and telecom companies in Europe, Asia and North America.

He’s a director of the board of the publicly traded Opera Software as well as the broadband provider Broadnet. Christensen holds a masters degree focused on Computer Science/Business Administration from the University of Mannheim, Germany.

Gerry O’Reilly

Chief Financial Officer

Gerry has 15 years of experience as CFO in both public and private technology companies. He has been involved in developing and scaling businesses from early stage to liquidity events. Most recently he was CFO of Xplornet Communications where he helped build Canada’s leading rural broadband provider.

At Xplornet he led the company’s financings and acquisitions including raising more than $400M in high yield offerings and private placements.

Prior to Xplornet, Gerry was CFO of TeraGo Networks where he helped build the company and led the initial public offering on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Gerry holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University, a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario and he holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation.

Samir Ahuja

SVP, Strategic Accounts

Samir Ahuja is a seasoned entrepreneur, leader and technologist, and vital member of Quickplay’s executive. As SVP, Strategic Accounts, Samir leads a team of seasoned Account Managers with accountability for nurturing and growing Quickplay’s business with existing customers.

As co-founder, CTO and COO for Optura, a successful software company, Samir gained extensive experience developing and executing mission critical programs. His company was ultimately sold to OpenText, a leader in Content Management. OpenText’s management recognized Samir’s distinct abilities and experience, and invited him to join their team. As General Manager, Samir and his division provided strategic Enterprise Software solutions to key customers.

Samir earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Engineering from the University of Toronto.

Michael Couture

SVP, Product Management and Marketing

Michael Couture joined Quickplay in July 2014 as SVP, Product Management and Marketing to direct the services lifecycle and roadmap, expand marketing in support of the Quickplay growth strategy, and drive key sales initiatives. Bringing experience in telecom product management from market challenger Sprint Canada, Couture was a key contributor to the product roadmap and go-to-market strategies of one of Canada’s most successful tech start-ups, Solect Technology Group (acquired by Amdocs in 2000 for $1.5 Billion).

At telecom software and services giant Amdocs, Couture progressed to Vice President, Global Product and Solutions Marketing across the full portfolio of software and professional services, eventually being promoted to General Manager and Head of Global Marketing.

In 2008, Amdocs appointed Couture as General Manager of a $250 million managed services business, where he led the unit comprised of consulting, sales, software development, systems integration, and operations to five years of overachievement in sales bookings, revenue and EBIT.

Couture holds a BA in Economics Summa Cum Lade and MBA from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada.

Mark Hyland

SVP, Global Sales

As SVP, Global Sales, Mark Hyland is responsible for worldwide sales and channel strategies and programs. Mark is a successful entrepreneur with deep expertise in the media industry. Combining his keen interest in emerging technologies with his formal background in journalism, Mark co-founded Shift Magazine, which quickly became a popular media and entertainment industry resource.

Later, as Director of Business Development and New Media at CBC, Mark initiated the company’s online media extension which culminated in CBC.ca becoming the top news site in Canada. Transitioning to the role of Director of Broadband and Digital Services at CBC, Mark fully embraced the emerging technologies of high-definition television and video-on-demand. It was this passion for high-quality, accessible entertainment that attracted him to Quickplay.

Mark has frequently spoken at influential mobile entertainment industry events, including CTIA Wireless & Entertainment, Digital Hollywood and Mobile Content Strategies. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from McGill University in Montreal, a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of King’s College in Halifax and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Dave Beers

VP, Service Delivery

As the Vice President of Service Delivery reporting to the COO, Dave oversees platform development, media operations, service transition, monitoring and support. Dave’s focus is on building scalable teams, processes, and systems that underpin time-to-market, quality and manageability objectives.

Dave joined Quickplay after having spent over 17 years at Microsoft, most recently as the Senior Director of datacenter supply chain strategy and hardware deployment operations.

Prior to that, Dave was responsible for developing and managing the Microsoft Operations Center during the previous 5 years of explosive growth. In that role, he grew and led a team responsible for monitoring, restoration and support of one of the world’s largest online infrastructures – supporting over 300 online services reaching hundreds of millions of consumers & enterprises globally. This continued the theme of Dave’s previous 10 years’ work at Microsoft – leading transformation initiatives to improve quality and control of strategic business operations during periods of rapid expansion – including online advertising sales operations, editorial operations, venture integrations, and IT/HR systems development.

Dave holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiological Psychology from Bates College in Maine.

Rachel Jacobson

VP, Human Resources

As VP, Human Resources, Rachel Jacobson is responsible for providing executive HR leadership, developing the corporate Human Resource strategy and programs and building a winning employee value proposition at Quickplay.

Rachel is an entrepreneurial human resources executive with deep experience in technology startups and specializing in recruitment of high performance teams, acquisition and integration management strategies and overall management of global HR teams.

Prior to joining Quickplay, Rachel led the global human resources function for Motricity (MOTR) as well as Virgin Mobile Canada. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario and completed the Advanced Human Resources Management Program at the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto.

Kavi Maharajh

VP, Product Marketing

Kavi Maharajh is Vice President of Product Marketing for Quickplay where he is responsible for ensuring Quickplay’s solutions continue to strengthen their differentiation in the market, establish thought leadership positions, and drive high-level requirements into the product roadmap. Kavi has a unique combination of technology expertise in software, video and IP-connected devices as well as over a decade of transformative innovations in the digital media entertainment and pay TV industry.

He previously led Product Management and R&D for Quickplay where he set the vision, product strategy and managed the evolution of Quickplay’s OpenVideo platform for delivering cloud-based video services across a broad range of IP-connected devices. His responsibilities also included Quickplay’s growing patent portfolio.

Dennis Specht

VP, Global Partnerships

Dennis leads the Quickplay’s Partner & Business Development Team, in establishing and growing a portfolio of Tier 1 channel and solution partners, and developing strategic business opportunities for Quickplay.

Dennis joined Quickplay in 2015 as part of Quickplay’s acquisition of broadcast technology pioneer Roundbox Inc., where Dennis was co-founder and chief executive officer from the company’s inception.

Prior to founding Roundbox in 2003, he co-founded dynamicsoft, Inc., a producer of carrier-grade VoIP and wireless SIP-based software solutions, which was acquired by Cisco Systems in 2004. During his years at Lucent Technologies, Dennis held senior positions in engineering, product management, and marketing, as managing director of Internet Telephony. At Lucent, he led the team that invented and delivered the first commercial Internet telephony gateway to market. Dennis also held executive positions at Sapient Corporation.

Dennis has been named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, recognized as a top entrepreneur and executive by Ernst and Young, RCR Wireless and Frost & Sullivan; and named “One of the Most Significant Pioneers” in the communications industry by pulver.com.

Neal Vachhani

VP, Enterprise and Platform Program Management

As VP Enterprise and Platform Program Management, Neal is responsible for ensuring successful customer deployments with a seamless transtion from delivery into operations, driving the agenda for enhanced end-user experience, leading our customer success teams, deploying enterprise-wide resources,  and  the execution of successful program management.

Prior to joining Quickplay, Vachhani spent 9 years with McKinsey & Company, where he co-founded the Advanced Analytics Technology Lab, which deploys SaaS and managed service workflow optimization software. He also led nearly 80 go-to-market and operational performance transformations at global PE-owned and Fortune 500 high-tech, telecom, financial services, and healthcare companies based out of Asia, Europe and North America.

Preceding McKinsey, Vachhani was an optical network engineer at Bell Labs, a division of Lucent Technologies. He is currently on the Board of Berklee College City Music. Vachhani holds a degree in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Goutham Vinjamuri

VP, Middleware and Client Solutions

Vinjamuri brings in 17+ years of practice management experience in dealing with global customers and teams. Vinjamuri leads our engineering teams in the development and deployment of Quickplay’s middleware and client components with a focus on quality and time-to-market.

Prior to joining Quickplay, Vinjamuri served as Global Head for the Architecture, Performance and QA practices at Polaris Financial Technologies for 8+ years, leading major efforts around presales, technology partnerships, customer relationships, solution delivery and people management.

Preceding Polaris, Vinjamuri spent 8+ years with TATA Consultancy Services as a practice manager where he launched and developed the Enterprise Systems Performance practice in North America and worked extensively with leading financial, retail, healthcare, media and telecom companies in the region.

Vinjamuri holds a Master’s degree in Computer Applications from National Institute of Technology, Warangal – India and a Bachelors Degree in Electronics Sciences from Nagarjuna University, India.

Tremain Wheatley

VP, Product Management

Tremain leads the Quickplay Product Management team in driving the Quickplay managed video platform product roadmap forward, evaluating build-buy-partner opportunities, and developing business cases for product and service investments.

Prior to joining Quickplay he was a Case Team Leader at the global strategy consulting firm Bain & Company where he focused primarily on private equity diligence advisory and the firm’s technology, media and telecom practice area.

Tremain’s previous experiences include commercial construction project management and 6 years in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve as an Intelligence Officer. Tremain holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Virginia.
